In parent patent, in a machine for automatically cutting off the ends of mushroom stalks, esp., stalks of button mushrooms; a rotating plate with peripheral, stalk-holding slots brough each mushroom in turn to a trimming blade which cuts off the end of each stalk. Here, the blade mounting is made resilient, e.g., pivotally spring-loaded so that if the cutting edge meets an excessive obstruction, such as a stone not removed by washing, the blade swings back and the cutting edge remains undamaged.
