The base of a Sklemar reverberatory type furnace enables the introduction of a gaseous mixture into the furnace for copper refusing. The base comprises a lining having three insulating coatings a first coating of sand and two subsequent coating of refractory bricks. A series of cells for the introduction of the gas are located in the third layer to distribute the gas along the length of the furnace. These cells are supplied from a main pipe in the first coating.
