Anticancer compsn. contg. 2-methyl-4-carbamoyl-5-hydroxy-imidazole of formula (I) or its salts, is new. (I) is effective against a wide range of cancers, (esp. those of the solid type), and can be given orally. (I) has low toxicity, e.g. acute LD50 in mice is 2 G/kg orally or 130 mg/kg intravenously. The usual dose is 3-10 g/day, esp. as tablets or capsules.
