The overload protection circuit, for a transistor switch, employs a thyristor to protect the switch. The transistor is unaffected by unwanted voltage spikes originating from the thyristor. An auxiliary transistor (T2) is connected in series with the protection thyristor (Th) and conducts only when the thyristor is conducting. The thyristor is shunted by a capacitor (C2) which may be in series with a protective resistor (R4). The auxiliary transistor's base may be connected to its own potential source (U') at the same time as the switching transistor's base is connected to its own source, i.e. ground. The circuit may be used in telephone exchanges where signals currents from low impedance current sources are connected to lines via transistor switches.
