The laser has a cell (2) irradiated by a light pump (3), a front semitransparent resonator mirror (1) perpendicular to the laser beam, and an optical grating (4) at the cell other end, in the laser beam by which the laser llight is diffracted with frequency dispersion. The beam emerging from the cell falls on the grating (4) which is completely illuminated by it. A tunable optical element (5) is provided in one of the grating orders, so that the wavelength to be tuned is reflected. The grating forms part of a Littrow mounting.
