The fuel economy meter is based on conventional forms of continuous-reading fuel consumption instruments without requiring the attention of the driver which has also to be directed towards the speedometer and/or tachometer. The new meter has a pointer which is incorporated in a conventional speedometer or tachometer instrument. The transmission arrangement between the transducer and the actual display pointer is such that the most economical rate of fuel consumption at the corresponding speed and engine revolutions is shown when this additional pointer is masked by the speedometer or revolution counter needle, ie. the driver endeavours to keep the pointers coincident.
