The method of extracting carbon dioxide and methane gases in mines, includes boring a hole (15) in the coal face and inserting an extraction pipe (9) to which is connected a pump (5) for extracting the gases. They are then mixed with sufficient air to reduce their danger before being discharged to atmosphere. The discharge tube (4) from the pump is fitted into an adaptor (1) which has a hole (2) larger than the tube. Air can then enter the ring shaped gap (6) between them. Preceding the pump (5) is an adjustable throttling valve (7) and preceding this is a methane measuring device (11). Another methane measuring device is mounted on a discharge tube (17) at the outlet of the mixer (1). These devices are interconnected and also connected to a system (14) operating the valve (7) to control the mixture.
