The central heating system is supplied through a mixer valve, from either a solar energy collector, a heat pump, or an auxiliary heater. Two three-way valves in the return pipe select among these heat sources. When the solar heating proves insufficient, the first three-way valve transfers, directing the return flow through the second valve. This directs the flow in the first instance through the heat pump, and a relay circuit containing a timer comes into action. If, after a certain time, the heating is still insufficient, the second three-way valve also transfers, and directs the flow through a conventional heater.
