Determination of the local integrated flux-time prod. or the degree of the burning down of the nuclear fuel in a nuclear reactor is carried out by taking samples from the surface of the casings of the nuclear fuel contg. additives forming or changing isotopes under the action of neutrons, and measuring by means of a mass spectrograph the changes that have occurred in the isotope concn. or ratio in the given indicator element. The flux-time prod. can be determined very easily and accurately (as the isotope ratio can be determined in a modern spectrograph with an accuracy of about 0.01%).
