The tip of teh frog is fitted with a switching mechanism which locks the tip when it is in one end position against the side rail. The wheel of the rolling stock passing over the intersection trips a lever arrangement to release the frog. The movement produced by the wheel is transmitted to a locking rod and a force acting on this rod is released. The force is greater than the resistance produced by the switching mechanism and acting in the opposite direction, and the tip of teh frog is thus released from its locked position. The releasing force is pref. provided by a spring.
