The device for protecting taxi drivers against assault comprises a danger warning sign on top of the taxi which the driver may use to indicate for example that he feels to be in danger. On top of the car is the normal taxi sign (1) surmounted by an additional coloured transparent housing (7). Two lamps (3,4) are mounted in this housing and are connected to a flasher unit (10). The flasher unit is connected to the car electrical system via a switch positioned near the main control pedals. If the driver finds that he has suspect or dangerous passengers in the taxi, he may operate the warning light without the passengers being aware, since the light and the switch are out of sight from the point of view of the occupants of the taxi.
