Vaccine for the prophylactic treatment of equine trichophytosis consists of a suspension of microconidia of an immunogenic strain of Trichophyton equinum in physiological soln. at pH 6.2-7.0, the concn. being 30-45 millions units per ml. of sterile physiological soln. The immunogenic strain is typically trichophyton equinum NL-2251/70 (USSR). In an example, the microorganism was cultured on agar-beer must, and this was used to seed a sucrose-gelatin medium. The prod. after culture was freeze-dried and was tested for immunogenic activity and innocuity.
