The vehicle rear view mirror includes a system for rendering the glass opaque. This is done by placing between the reflecting glass and a transparent outside glass a thin film of liquid crystals. Under the influence of a suitable electrical voltage and frequency the liquid crystal film becomes opaque. The control is very suitable for a rear mirror fitted a long way from the driver and outside a vehicle. The electrical control can be automatic, and initiated by a photo electric cell which measures the light intensity reaching the glass or generally existing outside the vehicle.
