The piece of jewellery may be formed of sections of different materials such as wood, plastic, metal without the resulting discolouration which occurs if metal sections are welded together. A typical jewellery piece is formed from a ring with a flat face with a mortise which receives a tenon on the rear face of a small plate carrying a decorative symbol. The small plate is transversely curved so that the distortion of the plate after it has been fixed to the ring ensures that there will be no play in the connection. The system allows a standard ring to be produced for a large number of different decorative sections.
