The parent patent describes a filter intended esp. for under ground mining and tunnels, consisting of a tubular housing containing a series of star-shaped filters; the dust falls to the V-shaped bottom of the housing, from which it is extracted by a revolving screw conveyor. In the parent patent of addition, a sieve plate or perforated plate is mounted above the dust-extracting screw. Pref. the plate is spring-mounted, and some of the filter elements have baffle plates on the upstream side, esp. a perforated plate to deflect excessive dust from the upstream filters. A pair of perforated plates may be used in which the perforations are staggered from one plate to the other. The perforated plate immediately above the dust extractingscrew prevents fast circulating air in the housing from agitating the dust and consequent recirculation. Free escape of gas is provided.
