The handling arrangement is used for manipulating and lifting large containers or workpieces. The handling arrangement has t wo pairs of columns (1) whose length can be varied. The columns have rollers (10, 11) at base and top for guiding endless belts (4) around the rollers. Each column has a lower part (5) in which slides an upper column part (6). The latter is actuated by a nut and leadscrew or hydraulically. A roller is driven by a motor (14) and worm and wheel drive (13).
