The electrical heating in the suction duct (1) of a combustion engine comprises switchable heating devices (10) which are moved when switched on so that they are thermally insulated from the housing containing them to prevent heat loss. The heater (10) is arranged in a housing which is heated (2) by exhaust gas or engine coolant when the engine is warm. The heat (10) may consist of a plate (9) carrying a number of heating elements (5) and moveable against spring action (11) on a number of pins (8). The heating elements (5) and the solenoid (6, 13) moving the plate (9) are preferably switched via a thermostat arranged in the coolant line.
