TEM-waveguide for h.f. and microwave engineering e.g. for phase shifters, attenuators, detunable short-circuits switches etc. is designed to be as broad-band as possible consistent with having a flexible inner conductor that is movable in one plane and which has a constant characteristic impedance. Thus, the outer conductor is designed as a pair of plane-parallel flat plates between which is an inner inner conductor lying perpendicular to both plates. The inner conductor is arranged as a flat strap partially metallised on one or both sides, the strap being flexible and dielectric in nature. The characteristic impedance is tunable by means of the spacing (D) between the pair of flat plates.
