The catalyst performance monitor uses a signals from two temp. sensors, pref. standard commercial NTC resistances. Catalyst exhaustion causes changes in relationship between the signals. When these reach a predetermined value a warning is issued. Sensors may be identical or one may be coated with catalysts. In the former case one is fitted in the entry chamber, the other in the reaction zone. In the latter both are together, in the reaction zone or (pref.) in the outlet chamber. With the former arrangement a cut-out for the signal during engine warm-up is required.
