The detection and warning arrangement is used for indicating, in good time erosion damage caused by rain, sand, ice and hailstorms on components of high speed aircraft, helicopters and guided missiles. This device yields information on servicing and on routine inspection about previous erosion loading. It also warns the pilot on flying through rain in good time before destruction of components by erosion so that he can change his flying speed or altitude. The arrangement has an erosion measuring instrument which indicates the cumulative loss of material due to erosion. It has also an intensity measuring instrument for evaluating and indicating the instantaneous erosion loading. This erosion measuring instrument has several readily eroded layers (8) provided with different markings. The material loss is measured either electrically or electronically. The intensity is measured by a pressure sensor with a piezoelectric crystal.
