The variable-frequency 3-phase square wave generator, for producing signals 120 deg. apart, has an oscillator which is used to generate a signal which has a frequency six times the frequency of the fundamental or nominal frequency. This multiplied signal is passed to a binary counter that changes state every time it reaches the sixth pulse. The counter has three outputs which control three parallel multiplexers each of which has six data inputs, three control inputs and one output. The multiplexers are controlled by the counter such that the data at the inputs of one multiplexer is switched through sequentially to the output of the multiplexer.
