A discharge duct for a room ventilating system designed to give an even distribution of air in a room without draughts, has a long chamber (10) with one or more connectors (20) for supply pipes (21). The horizontal air flow strikes a vertical plate (25) to travel around its top edge (26) which curves towards it. It then passes vertically downwards to a horizontal discharge duct (24). - This tapers towards its discharge end, and its base is formed by a distributor plate (19) which also discharges air downwards at low velocity. This distributor plate has rows of punched openings across it so that air is distributed in two directions, namely in the direction of the horizontal flow, and against it. These openings are formed by strips which are punched downwards, leaving sideways discharge slots. Each row of slots is staggered with the next.
