In order to exploit wind energy for the purpose of producing electrical energy, a rotor actuated by the thrust of the wind actuates one or more reciprocating pumps: for the purpose of obtaining optimum yield of energy extractable from the wind, it is necessary to keep the ratio " lambda " of the peripheral speed of the blade to the wind speed within the optimal interval from 6 to 12. Furthermore, the power delivered by the rotor increases with wind speed, so that by increasing the stroke of the pump, an increase is obtained in the power absorbed while keeping the speed of rotation of the rotor within the limits of the abovementioned ratio. The strokes of the pistons of the pumps are increased by moving the head (4) of the connecting rod (5) which is connected with the stem (6) of the plunger (7). The movement of the head (4) is regulated as a function of the number of revolutions of the rotor. The water pressurised by the said pump actuates a turbine and the latter an alternator. It is possible, if desired, to convey any excess water to a raised tank and to actuate the turbine by drop when the wind energy is low or zero. IMAGE
