1456169 Screw presses ELECTROLUX AB 2 June 1975 [13 June 1974] 23778/75 Heading B5F [Also in Division B8] In a screw press comprising a piston 10, a support 25 and a vertically movable part 17, 21, a screw 13 journalled in the piston 10 and threaded rods 23, 24 journalled in the support 25 each engage screw threads in the part 17, 21. As applied to a household waste compactor, the yoke 21 and spacer 17 are interconnected by rods 18, 19, and drive is by an electromotor 35 and a toothed belt 26 to a pinion and gears 30, 31 on the rods 23, 24. The screw 13 and one or more shafts 14, 15 are keyed together in telescopic relationship, Fig. 4 (not shown), being driven from the pinion through a slipping coupling 37. Thus fast movement of the piston effected by rotation of the coarse-pitch screw 13 and the fine-pitch rods 23, 24 is followed by slow movement when the coupling 37 slips upon increased pressure. Maximum pressure sensed by a power relay in the motor circuit reverses the motor. Reversal upon insufficient or no pressure on the piston is caused when the yoke 21 compresses springs 27 at the ends of the rods 23, 24. The yoke 21 may be guided on bars (not shown).
