Thermoplastic materials may be attached in an irreversible manner to metallic supports by using the technique described. It avoids use of screws which may loosen due to vibration and prevents deliberate dismantling of, for example, classroom furniture which may be produced in (4) in the portion to be covered by the plastic. When the plastic portion (1) is initially moulded, a thickened part (5) is made in the region of the hole (4). After assembly, the plastic is reheated by a clamp which then forces the softened excess plastic into the hole and forms a locking lug (7). No evidence of the form of attachment is visible and the fixing is permanent.
