The ferrites are treated in a sulphuric acid contg. soln. in the presence of K-, Na- or ammonium ions at 80-105 degrees C under atm. condition to ppt. Fe in the form of jarosite. The jarosite contg. solids are sepd. from the soln., which is recycled to the neutral leaching stage in which the original roast prod. is leached and from which a Zn, Cu and Cd contg. soln. is obtd., while the ferrite contg. solids are fed to stage, a fraction of the jarosite contg. solids formed in the ferrite treatment stage are recycled to the process. The jarosite concn. is 50-400 G/l (200-300 g/l) in the first part of the ferrite stage. The method gives a redn in the time required for the ferrite treatment stage.
