A mountain chairlift runs on a cable driven by a pulley at one end and running over supporting columns. Safety transducers are, typically, mounted at these columns to monitor the cable for correct running over the guide pulleys at that column. The safety control network consists of a constant current generator feeding a number of transducer stations serially, each of which contains a switch which closes when a fault occurs. A detector locating unit defects when such a closure occurs, locates the detector concerned, and alerts an operating circuit which raises the alarm and halts the chairlift drive. An independent current source and driving network.
