An internal combustion engine using ordinary or five star-petrol as motor fuel has an additional supply of a mixt. of a combustible gas (propane) and air. This extra supply is utilised specially at low engine speeds during idling and for the starting period. A flange is arranged between the carburettor and the engine intake manifold. A bush has perforations for the admission of atmospheric air and others for a hose to a propane bottle. The propane admission is controlled by a solenoid valve which can be actuated by the ignition key or separately. This eliminates the emission of noxious substances with the engine exhaust which is particularly high in CO content at low engine speed. Existing engines with carburetors can be readily converted to the additional supply.
