The spring mounted speedboat seat is set on vertical helical springs. One pair (D) is fitted under the front edge of the seat, the other (E) behind and adjacent to the backrest (C), taking the load via a bracket projecting from the latter. This arrangement cushions the occupant against shocks, due e.g. to waves, which might otherwise cause injury. It thus allows high speed to be maintained in worse sea states than would be possible in a boat with conventional seats. The springs can be mounted directly on the floor-boards, helping to keep the occupant's CG low, improving craft stability.
