摘要
Iron, steel, and non-ferrous metals or their alloys are refined by electroslag remelting. In using a cooled copper mould made of two or more segments, a non-magnetic steel or alloy core is located in the air gap of a choke so that a transverse magnetic field is created between the bottom end of the consumable electrode and the molten pool of metal. A direct or alternating magnetic field may be employed by using direct or alternating current to feed the choke coils. The transverse field is pref. used to control the size of the metal drops and to rotate the slag and/or the molten pool. The electrodynamic forces reduce the size of the metal drops falling from the consumable electrode, increases the interaction of metal and slag, and thus raises the speed of melting by 20-30%.
