The bridge for carrying railway tracks has provision for expansion and contraction between its rigid outer mountings (4). Belts (2) stretched across the mountings ran beneath the bridge structure, which has a free mounting (3) at each end permitting axial movement. The bridge span is attached to the belt at the centre of the span. Where the bridge has more than one section, each has the free mounting on the rigid supports, with each of the belts anchored at the end of alternate sections. Each belt is then used only for linking to an adjacent section in one direction.
