Process for filtering involves feeding a slurry to a filter press by means of a pump with onstant or controllable delivery. On the opposite side of the plate bundle to the input line either directly on the end plate or with a line, there is connected a storage vessel. This can hold slurry under pressure and release it when the delivery pump is stopped. The periodic inflow and outflow of slurry from this vessel prevents the inlet to the press from blocking. The vessel acts as an air receiver. The air cushion in it is increased by compressed air and for optimal use of this, a level control is included. When the press is fully charged, as indicated by the pressure which the delivery pump has reached, residual slurry is blown back to the holding vessel by the air cushion. For use with filter press systems. Has the advantage of preventing the deposition of a cake prematurely in the channel of the press, thus extending the effective life of the press. Allows the inlet passage to be blown free on completion of the filter cycle.
