Shears composed of Ni contg. S are provided with a thin layer of Cr on the cutter surface and at corners by electrodeposition, the layer having a thickness of 0.3-2 mu and a hardness of =1000 Vickers. The cutter foil of Ni contg. S is produced from a Ni bath composed of 300-600 g/l Ni sulphamate, 4-12 g/l Ni chloride, 30-60 g/l boric acid and a brightener, which is used at a high c.d. of 8-50 A/dm2. The resultant Ni foil has a hardness of 200-400 Vickers. Used for single or twin shear or cutter foils in electric razors. Pref. the Cr layer is obtd. by using a Cr electroplating bath with a pH 1.6-4, at a c.d. 80-400 A/dm2 and at 50-60 degrees C. The bath contains 120-250 g/l (170 g/l) Cr trioxide, a catalyst such as Sr sulphate, K silicofluoride. In sulphate, and a small amt. of an aliphatic or aromatic di- or tri-halogenated carboxylic acid. The Cr layer is obtained within 10-60 sec. pref. 30 sec. referred to a thickness of 1 micron.
