The amplitude adjustment takes into consideration changes of energy transmission due to the nature of the ground under the geophones. A signal is derived from each geophone, generated by background noises, and compared with a reference signal. Geophone outputs are adjusted in accordance with the ratio of the noise to reference signals, so that output signals generated by seismic energy in each geophone accurately represent the seismic energy which reaches the surface layer under the geophone. Unwanted or irrelevant frequencies are removed by filters before the amplifying stages. An average value for all the processed signals can be easily achieved if desirable.
