The machine has two meshing gear wheels (5, 6) keyed to shafts (7, 8). They are contained in a cylindrical housing (2) with end faces (3, 4). The shafts are carried in bearings (9, 10) which are free to float axially. Chambers (12, 13) are left between the outer sides of the bearing (9, 10) and the housing g end faces (3, 4). These chambers are filled with liquid under pressure and are eccentric to the shaft axes so that the high pressure surface is greater than the low pressure surface. one side of each chamber is formed by a pressure plate (15, 16) in the shape of a figure of eight between the bearing (9, 10) and the end face (3, 4). The pressure plate has an opening for each gear tooth and carries a sealing strip (17).
