Experimental apparatus for investigating shocks comprises a dial (4) with graduations (5) and two neighbouring pendulums (2, 3) each equipped with permanent magnets (10, 11, 10', 11'). The poles of same sign of the magnets carried by the pendulums are opposite each other. Each pendulum may carry two identical magnets (10, 11 or 10', 11') cemented on top of each other with opposite poles adjacent. Each pendulum is in the form of a trapezium with its support horizontal and perpendicular to the dial and its mass being supported by two rods carried by the support. In order to study shocks with multiple masses, equal masses are placed above and beneath the two magnets of a pendulum so that its C.G. is not displaced.
