The detector comprises two Wheatstone bridges each having a temperature sensing resistor in one arm. Current is fed to each bridge through a further resistor and an amplifier to maintain a constant temp. in the sensing resistor above ambient temp. The sensing resistors are exposed to the gas under test and the presence of a combustible gas causes an increase in temp. of the second sensing resistor. This increase is detected by comparing the amplifier outputs and is indicated in units of concentration of the gas. The working life of the sensing resistor is greatly increased compared with customary systems.
