A mechanical printing head for use with labels provides a consecutive number series, increasing by a value of 1 each time the input actuator is operated. Discs (11-16) are freely mounted on a shaft (2) and are capable of independent rotational motion. Located between each disc is a multilobe cam plate (42-46). Each disc has the numbers 0-9 formed on the periphery. A number of spring biased cam followers are located on a common shaft. The size of the followers varies from the least significant to the most significant number disc. In operation a spring loaded plunger (9) is actuated to cause the cams to progressively advance the state displayed on the number discs. The difference is size of the cams ensures that a units, tens, hundreds operation is achieved.
