For the degassing of boiler feed water in power production processes by supplying condensate to a feed water reservoir and heating the water therein by steam introduced below the water level, a part of the condensate is supplied below the water surface and is brought to the boiling point before it leaves the feed water reservoir by the steam introduced therein. The fraction of the condensate feed supplied below the surface of the water preferably increases with rising throughput. Enables a more intensive degassing to be obtained with a considerable reduction of the volume of water in the feed water reservoir and hence a reduction in the size of the latter. In addition the water surface remains calmer and thus does not interfere with the spraying-in of the feed water.
