The control system, for a telephone exchange data peripherals, acknowledges the receipt of a group selection signal transmitted from a peripheral unit (Z) to a sub-unit (T2) between the peripheral and a central unit (Z). On a receipt of the correct 'acknowledge' signal, an address signal is transmitted from the central unit over the connected-in sub-peripheral switching station to the appropriate peripheral. The advantage lies in being able to locate faults more accurately in a shorter time and with a simpler programme.
