The lifeboat is fitted with an asymmetric profiled deck (27) to give more buoyancy on one side when capsised. This provides a rapid self righting force to keep the boat upright even in the roughest seas. To aid the self righting action the bottom of the boat has ballast displaced to one side, with the amount of ballast required for stability less than would be required for a symmetrically profiled craft. The deck completely covers the boat and special pumps, driven by the internal engine, provide water sprays over all the outer surface so that the boat can be safely moved through burning oil slicks.
