In a method of clarifying the liquor from the beer brewing vat by removing the sediments from the hot and then from the cooled liquor, as well as the yeast, sediments, and esp. solid particles having only a very slightly heavier specific gravity than the carrier fluid, the sediments are decanted during at least one phase of the prodn. process, in a vessel sealed against the atmosphere and kept as sterile as possible, so that a fluid fraction and a solids fraction can be drawn off separately. During the intervals between the clarifying processes, the decanter is thoroughly cleaned by pumping through it, water and cleansing and disinfectant additives, under pressure. Process reduces the amt. of effluent very considerably and increases the yield of useful by-products for animal fodder, etc. Operates continuously with very little supervision and maintenance.
