In a process for mfg. welded tubes with a longitudinal welded seam, a longitudinally-fed metal strip is formed into a slit tube and the adjacent edges joined by electric are welding in inert gas. The strip consists of =2 parallel strips which are fed to a welding unit where arc welding in inert gas is used to make one wide strip. The edges of the strips being welded together pref. overlap as they are fed through an edge trimming machine prior to welding and the weld is pref. subjected to plastic deformation by rolling. Used e.g. in mfg. corrugated pipes for use in remote heating installations. Strip widths 1.5 m are not normally obtainable; the invention produces one wide strip by welding two strips side by side.
