The gear wheel pair does not use any preloading or spring arrangements and has damping characteristics for reducing noise on running. One of the wheels is made from a metallic material with a tooth thickness corresponding to the flank play conventional for metallic gear drives. The other wheel is made from plastics and its tooth thickness is designed so that it matches the tooth gap of the engaging metallic gear wheel plus a slight excess dimension. The plastics gear wheels are made so wide that their strength is adequate for eliminating the play and for accommodating the torque transmitted.
