A pneumatic (tubless) tyre has a safety inner tube bearing agains the tyre beadings but not in contact with the tread region of the tyre under bormal circumstances. Contact between this inner safety tube and the beading regions and/or the rim of the wheel is via a number of elastic projections, either along the inner shoulds of the tube, or along the corresponding opposite faces of the beading region and/or on a ring resting in the trough of the wheel rim. These projections pref. constitute deformable, flat rectangular st strips or ribs running in the circumferential direction of the tube. If, when the outer tyre becomes depressurised, contact occurs between it and the inner tube, then the resultant progressive slip of the inner tube around the wheel caused by the differences in circumfererence of the two tyres does not result to damage at the contact regions on account of the ability of the projecting shoulders to deform. Thus the phenomenon of progressive deformation and sudden 'jump' of the tube is virtually eliminated and damage does not occur.
