One or more light conducting cables are used, which are fed from a protected light source; the light source may be the vehicle head-lamp (1) or one of the side lamps; the indicating instruments (3) may be provided with one or more reflectors which are illuminated by the light conducting cables (2), or alternatively a special light source may be provided for illumination of the instruments, which is mounted on the vehicle frame and is protected from the explosive atmosphere. The instruments are housed inside a front hood on the locomotive, in front of the drivers seat.
