A time multiplex system having economic and versatile characteristics is such that a considerable amount of data is pulse code modulated with differing transmission bands of information contents, and multiplexed in a previously determined order according to the transmission band or information content, and transmitted together with a control signal for de-multiplexing, along a common line, in which the line or the communication channel use is changed by the multiplexing system in accordance with the occurrence of the data and traffic. A control signal for this change is supplied through the common line. Communication may continue on a channel being dropped, together with the new channel, until the receiving end is entirely ready to accept traffic on the new channel.
