An ultrasonic transductor (1), is connected to an amplifier (2) carrying a nozzle (3) connected to a source of ink under pressure (S2). Downstream of the nozzle there are, a droplet charging ring (4) connected to an AC source supplying a sawtooth wave and a first set of electrodes (5) connected to a second AC source synchronised with the first, and delivering a rectangular signal supplied with constant voltage. A constant-speed transporter mechanism (M1, M2) conveys the document in a direction at right angles to that of the ink jet, and a mask (7) with an aperture (8) is fitted between the path of the document and the second set of electrodes.
