1391582 Automatic control of speed BENDIX CORP 24 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 19218/73 Heading G3R A control system for an engine detects in a speed or torque signal a low frequency (3Hz) perturbation ('surge'), and controls an exhaust gas recirculation valve or a mixture control to remove this perturbation and thus provide smooth running of the engine. In the arrangement described a signal from a magnetic pick-up arrangement corresponds to the speed of the engine and after conversion into a voltage is applied to the circuit shown which comprises a differentiating circuit and filter arrangement. The output signal (surge signal) on line 22 is used to control an operating parameter of the engine, typically the air/fuel mixture or concentration of exhaust gas recirculation, when a tolerance level is reached.
