Apparatus for welding a metallic component to a non-metallic component which involves interposing an aluminum layer between metallic and non-metallic components, preheating the metallic component and the aluminum layer, preferably by induction heating, to a temperature of at least 250 DEG C and then subjecting the components to ultrasonic welding.
